The Research and Applied AI Summit (RAAIS) is a community for entrepreneurs and researchers who accelerate the science and applications of AI technology. In the run up to our 9th annual event on June 13th 2025 in London, we’re running a series of speaker profiles to shed more light on what you can expect to learn on the day!
At RAAIS we have a focus on translating cutting edge technology and research into amazing products for real-world problems.
Andreas is a Co-Founder of the German generative AI startup Black Forest Labs, best known for its state-of-the-art text-to-image foundation model FLUX and backed by renowned venture capital firms like Andreessen Horowitz.
Prior to founding Black Forest Labs, Andreas was a generative AI researcher at LMU Munich, NVIDIA, and Stability AI, where he made significant contributions in the field of image and video generation.
He is the co-inventor of Latent Diffusion, a generative modeling technique that led to the famous open-source text-to-image AI system Stable Diffusion, which he co-developed. Today, the Latent Diffusion technique powers cutting-edge AI models for visual media such as FLUX, Midjourney, and OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, and has been adopted in a variety of related fields such as audio generation, medical imaging, and more. Andreas was named one of Germany’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2024 by Capital Magazin.
Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, Andreas has an extensive academic background, with publications amassing over 22,000 citations, reflecting his profound impact on the AI research community.
His work on high-resolution image synthesis using latent diffusion models has set new benchmarks in the field, influencing both academic research and practical applications. Andreas's commitment to open-source principles has fostered a collaborative environment, accelerating innovation and accessibility in AI technologies.
